Two guys watch Grown Ups 2 once a week for a year and give weekly reports.
“It’s not a movie that’s designed to be watched three times,” says one of the hosts, during episode three. The film is Grown Ups 2 and the hosts, New Zealand comedians Guy Montgomery and Tim Batt, go on to watch it 49 more times for their podcast, The Worst Idea Of All Time.
Their 25 minute weekly reports get funnier as their analysis of the film gets deeper and deeper.
It’s like they can’t believe that they’ve publicly committed to firstly, watching the same film every week for a year, and secondly, following it up with a podcast.
Choice quotes so far include,
“It’s somewhat surprising that Ice Cube didn’t pop up during this movie.”
“That’s not a film, that is a tax dodge.”
“Do not watch the movie, we can’t stress that enough.”
“If you were ten would you find this movie funny?” “Yeah I would, there’s a lot in there, there’s a moose.”
“I am still of the opinion we will find purpose the deeper we go.”
“What if it’s more like a drug trip where we don’t come home from it?”
“This is the thing, you wouldn’t even know because the very thing that you’re measuring the movie with is your mind, which is the same thing that’s being destroyed by the film.”
Grown Ups 2 is a film created by Adam Sandler that was released in 2013. It follows Grown Ups which premiered in 2010. Adam Sandler has created a lot of brilliant films: whether or not Grown Ups 2 is one of them seems beside the point of the podcast.
After week 52, the hosts choose a different movie and repeat the process. That movie is Sex and the City 2.
